Desert Safari Qatar

Take a trip to the desert if you have at least three days in Doha. Going on a desert safari in Qatar is a great way to see a side of the country that hasn’t been seen much and is still very authentic, apart from being stunning and great for photography: its beginnings

The tiny Arab nation was essentially a desert inhabited by pearl hunters and nomads before it became known as a destination for luxury and sophistication. Qatar started to become one of the richest countries in the world until natural gas was discovered off its coast.

As a result, a safari in Qatar is an essential part of Qatari culture and history. A great way to learn more about it is to go on a 4WD Dune Tour.

Travel insurance for Qatar:

We tell you more about the Qatar desert safari, including how much it costs and what to expect.

But first, let’s talk about the high cost of Qatar’s medical care. Travel insurance should therefore be arranged before departure. We never want to count on incidents, but they happen, as we have already experienced several times.

SafetyWings is our official partner and you can find them here on the blog. They are a nomadic insurance provider.

Qatar is a nation of one city:

Doha to be fair, there are also several other small towns and villages around the peninsula. However, Doha is the only truly worthwhile destination, as it is where all of Qatar’s sights and society are concentrated.

Although the city is expensive, public transport and Uber are modest. So if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on accommodation, you can choose to stay in a less central area and travel by Uber or public transport.

Below is a list of accommodation in Qatar worth exploring for your trip:

The super charming Tivoli Souq Waqif Boutique Hotel in one of the most popular and central locations in Doha, Souq Waqif, the oldest bazaar in the city. From this point on, you can easily get to different parts of Doha by metro, transport and taxi.

  • The Wyndham ($$): A great hotel in Westbay, one of the most sophisticated and modern neighborhoods in Doha, with a more traditional design. There are many bars, shopping malls and international restaurants in the city. Westbay has a subway and is on the coast.
  • Premier Inn Doha Airport Hotel Price: Basic exemplary inn, close to the airport terminal and metro. For those who only have one night in Doha, this is an excellent choice.

How is the Desert Safari Qatar:

Inland Sea

The desert safari in Dubai, which we also went on and wrote a whole article about, is very similar to the desert tour in Qatar. On the other hand, a Qatar safari tour will show you where the desert meets the sea, which makes a big difference. This is a place called the Inland Ocean, which is on the border with Saudi Arabia.

Being able to see the infinity of hills topped by the blue ocean of the bay is truly a breathtaking scene. The place is stunning and also attracts locals who often camp there and spend the late afternoon. The Inland Sea Tour is our favorite among other Qatar tour options.

Before leaving for the desert:

Since the Desert Safari Visit takes around 5 hours, you can choose to do it immediately in the first part of the day or in the early evening. The first shows the sunrise while the second shows the sunset. We decided to watch the sunset and it was amazing. Besides, one thing we will miss during our time in Qatar is this: the constantly stunning sunsets.

At the agreed time, your driver or guide will pick you up from your hotel in a four-wheel-drive vehicle that seats seven people, one in the front, three in the back, and another three in the rear compartment.

Tip: Avoid the rear seats when maneuvering on dunes as they tend to bounce the most. Or then again just put everything on the line!

The Main stop:

When everyone is ready, the driver drives into the desert. In about 30 minutes it makes the main stop: a camp that is very popular with tourists and offers camel rides. A desert camel ride takes no more than five minutes.

You can also pay to take a photo with a falcon and get free tea. We just enjoyed the tea because we don’t like trips where we interact with animals.

The Adventure in Desert safari Qatar:

Qatar Desert Safari Adventure After that we went on the Desert Safari Qatar. This is the point where the experience really begins. while the driver glided along the dunes for about an hour playing loud music. We loved it because it was a very intense and great experience! Despite the constant bouncing of the car, we never felt unsafe.

After moving to the hills in the desert of Qatar, we came to the feature of the visit: Excursion to the Inland Sea Qatar and Saudi Arabia share part of this sea as their border.

We didn’t go to the sea because we did the tour in December when it was cold. However, I believe it is possible in warmer seasons. Just be careful, because from what I’ve heard jellyfish are plentiful at certain times of the year.

After spending some time in the Inland Sea, we got back into the car and continued our drive through the dunes, finally stopping at a specific spot to watch the sunset and sandboard on the Qatar Dunes. The driver will then return to Doha and drop off each passenger at their respective accommodation (found here).

As you can see, the tour is lively and entertaining. Qatar desert safari is worth the money!

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF THE QATAR DESERT SAFARI?

We were already familiar with OceanAir from our desert trip in Dubai and had taken a tour of them.

Their service was excellent for us!

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AND/OR THE ELDERLY:

If you are going on this trip with your family, I would suggest renting a car just for them. In this way, you will have significantly more control over the level of maneuvering.

Although we never felt in danger, some of the downhills were very steep. For example, one of our friends was in a car accident in the past and sometimes worried about the trauma.

So if you’re traveling with young children and/or the elderly, it may be beneficial to book an entire car just for your family so you can decide what level of adventure you want to take. With other obscure individuals in the vehicle, controlling the search speed is more difficult.

How to dress and what to bring to the desert Safari in Qatar Comfortable clothes for walking in the dunes (big pants and a sweatshirt or t-shirt) Hat or cap Sunglasses Sneakers (but we took them off every time we walked in the dunes because the sand wasn’t hot) Sunscreen snacks if you think you’ll be hungry during the tour. Water is provided during the tour.
